In 2013 instead of our traditional Thanksgiving dinner, Jackson and I went down to help with the annual Donna Ginter Thanksgiving dinner held in our hometown of Dubuque, Iowa. This dinner feeds numerous people who are unable to cook or leave their homes to have a Thanksgiving dinner of their own. This was a great learning experience for Jackson. He was so excited and happy to help that he told me it would become our annual tradition.
The idea of “Thanksgiving Blessing Bags” came about to continue our tradition and to give back to those in need. The bags contain everything a family of 6 needs to sit down and enjoy a holiday meal together. The bags contain non-perishable items which include green beans, corn, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cornbread, brownie mix, iced tea and a roasting pan, as well as a gift certificate to purchase their turkey from a local grocery store.
In 2015 Live Like Jack assembled and donated 119 meals to families in need. In 2016 we were able to increase our donations to 152 bags! We are excited to once again help feed those in need in our community next year!
